Haven't forgotten about the logo either.
Sorry I haven't paid any attention to you guys. I'm really looking forward to getting artclick off the ground.

Haven't forgotten about the logo either.
Sorry I haven't paid any attention to you guys. I'm really looking forward to getting artclick off the ground.
Here is some ideas and "preferences" of mine.
Different Mediums
First, think about how this will look on different mediums like t-shirts, business cards and in superbowl ads (kidding). For example the winner of this logo competition submitted this alongside his entry so you can see exactly what his entry would look like on the different kinds of packages FreeBSD comes in. The people who submit t-shirt art to Threadless do the same thing. I really like this idea; if you can, try to put your logo on different printed materials. If you are looking for shirt models, we used this site, which is who we get our T-Shirt blanks from. You can see our feeble efforts here
Color Schemes
Second, I'm probably going to completely dump this color scheme, so don't be afraid to suggest a new one. I don't like the green I'm using for the text background because I think it is too dark and doesn't provide adequate contrast with the text.
As far as colors, I am a fan of less saturated, earthy colors. I think it gives a site an aire of sophistication. It is critical that the logo will work in two or three solid colors. If you look, the freebsd guy included artwork for black & white, greyscale, and a two color job.
Font Set
Make sure your font choice will not clash with san-serif'd fonts like verdana.
Misc
I really like that with the photographica logo, I can make the black "GRAPHICA" white for the t-shirts - it makes the logo more flexible when you can do that kind of stuff. I also like that if I wanted, I can remove the film bars and just stick to the text.
For some inspiration, here are some others. Take a look at logos you like and think about why. Don't be afraid to ask me what I like or what I'm going for :-)
Keep it up, and make sure to spread the word about this contest!
Ownership
I figure I'll announce this now. artClick (and photographica) is part of the Mozi Media Group, LLC. Named after my childhood dog, the whole idea is to keep you from taking my house, car and other non-existant assets away. While previously you granted arsgraphica the perpetual right to display your work, you now are granting Mozi Media Group, LLC the perpetual rights to display your work. Nothing big here.
artClick Logo Contest
As you can see, this website now needs a logo. Mine, well, sucks. Shall we do a logo contest?
Read inside for the details:
artsgraphica or arsgraphica?
Instead I've replaced them with three images that are below your story.
Since often times the art that appears here doesn't have a story surrounding it, you can use these images in place of the
popups if you wish.
For now, the preview is busted. Once you post, the three images will show exactly like they do in this story.
[editor's note, by coryking] If you ever tell me PNG's are a good replacement for gifs, I'll tell you to take a leap off your local cliff. Just realized IE horribly renders the gradient at the top of this page.
It's pretty simple to get started.
Rather then showing pictures where you click on a link and the image pops up, I want to show thumbnails of every picture in a story underneath the text. I think the notion of "tell a story, and click to see pictures," which works awesome on photographica, doesn't work well here.
What do you guys think?
What things can we do to help this site grow into a thriving community?
Firstly, thank all of you for your contributions. Together I think we can make this site a thriving community full of creative people.
Posting Styles
Now, I think we should put our brains together and establish some general things to include in our posts. For example, is the pictures pencil on paper? acrylic on canvas? Anything else to put in a post? Maybe how it was digitized?
Tags
As for tags, I feel one important tags to enter would be the medium. Anything else?
I'll move the story I posted on photographica on tags over here fairly soon. I've got a few hacks I need to write to make site news post to both websites.
Update [2005-9-27 15:11:18 by coryking]: Also cleaned up some of the references to "photography"... I'm sure there a thousand more though :-)
I've registered artsgraphica.org and what it is now arsgraphica.org, which should it be?
Also, if you are up to it, rather then call the images you upload here "photos" should the be called "images" "pictures" "art"?
Basically since you are all photographica users (for now), this site is photographica but for paintings, drawings, sketches, etc. If you are an artist, this site is for you. If you are a photographer, Photographica is for you.
The backend is the same on both and they will probably share subscription info or something...
Photographica User? As long as you signed up before today, your account should work here just fine.
